AUC Alumnae Counted Among the
100 Most Powerful Arab Women


In a listing of the world's 100 most powerful Arab women, compiled and published by CEO Middle East, three AUCians were named. Farida Mohamed Farid Khamis ’00, Mona Eltahawy ’90, ’92 and Maha ElShinnawy ’84, ’86 were each identified as setting standards of excellence. Read more



Nada Tantawi '85 serves as senior communications officer at the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development. She has more than 25 years of experience as a writer, editor and translator for a variety of donor-funded development projects, non-governmental organizations and Radio Cairo. Tantawi holds a bachelor's in mass communication from AUC, a diploma in business administration from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. She is currently pursuing a master's in Arabic literature from AUC.

Amr Sheta '89, '94 is executive vice chairman of the board of directors and co-CEO of Orascom Development Holding A.G. Sheta began his career in 1989 at Chase National Bank Egypt and was instrumental in establishing its investment banking arm, Commercial International Investment Company, and running its proprietary private equity fund. He holds a BA in economics and a master's in management from AUC. He also holds a diploma in project appraisal and investment management from the Harvard Business School.

Tamer El Naggar '93 is chief executive officer at Synovate Middle East and North Africa. His experience encompasses leading key client accounts, overall research design, as well as championing key research solutions and strategy and business development. El Naggar is the elected Egypt representative of the European Society of Market Research as well as the North Africa and Middle East representative of the Association of European Market Research Institutes. He is also co-chairman of the core marketing committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cairo, of which he has been a member since 2001.

Cairo International Model United Nations (CIMUN) Event

Ambassador Maged Abdelaziz hosted the CIMUN delegation, alumni working at the United Nations and staff members at AUC's New York Office for a delightful evening, where guests mingled and share their experiences.

Alumni were treated to discounts from Aroma Coffee, the latest collection of books by alumna-owned publishing house Dar Al Balsam and a special choral performance by Laila Tarek '99. The Australian Migration Services and Citizenship Consultancy and Aba Supermarket also contributed to the success of the event.

This event marked the launch of the Greater DC Loyal for Life AUCian Alumni Chapter and was hosted by Ambassador Sameh Shoukry at the Egyptian Embassy. Qamar Huda '89 was master of ceremony, and President Lisa Anderson (CASA '76) was the special guest speaker. During the event, 14 new members joined the Loyal for Life initiative.

After-Revolution Gathering

Mohamed Ismail '87 organized an engaging post-revolution gathering at the Katameya Residence Smash Club, which was attended by 70 alumni and their families.
